Bob Duff: Power play and goaltending in form It's too late to save the season but Detroit looks to have finally found consistency on the power play and in goal.

That's rich. PP worst in the league all season. A few games where it actually scores some goals so let's brag about it. This is just idiot Blashill trying to save his job for next season. Gullible Holland will likely buy it and keep him. Hire Gallant. At least he's a legitimate NHL head coach not trying to copy Babcock. Howard has had a very good season. Problem is he can never stay healthy. So even if you give him the #1 job, he always gets injured.

You're right the PP shows up five games out of 72 gms played.....Rich.....what a joke.
But I disagree with everyone's ( Media and the Poor Coaching staff ) braggadocio stance on Howard's numbers in only 20 games played. It's inflated and over rated, twenty games isn't a season. Howard is an inconsistent Goaltender who spends all his time on his knees. He is about to turn 33 yrs old, he's is overpaid. Please get rid of this terrible contract in a trade at the June Draft for a good piece, a good building block. If there are no takers, leave him unprotected for Vegas to take his 5.5 M salary. Mzarek is 24, Coreau is 25, we have to go with them until a better option surfaces. Why aren't Management playing more GR prospects for experience. I guess they value a Lousey Calder Cup more than a good Draft position. Winning in Detroit with 10 games left is meaningless and makes no sense what so ever. Play the kids......screw the Calder Cup standings. They are going to make the playoffs in Who Cares Land of tha AHL anyway.

On a brighter note... both Givani Smith and Filip Hronek are now in Grand Rapids. So I'm hoping to catch the Griffins play again sometime in the next week or so. Hopefully, they'll both be in the lineup. Maybe someday Smith could be a power forward the Wings desperately need.

And just for the record... the Griffins games have been far more entertaining than watching the Wings this season. At least the Griffins play with more heart and desperation. Hats off to Todd Nelson and crew for doing a fantastic job so far this season.

How so ?? Have you seen him play ? His stats say otherwise. It's not like the Wings organization has anything to lose by giving him a shot with Grand Rapids. I'd say he's earned it.

Per MLive:
Smith, 19, played in 64 games with Guelph this season and ranked among the team's leaders with 44 points (third), 26 goals (second), seven power play goals (tied for second), three game-winning goals (tied for first) and 214 shots (first).

The 6-foot-2, 209-pound winger logged 139 penalty minutes to lead the league for the second consecutive season.

Smith accumulated 101 points (56-45-101) in 159 games since joining Guelph midway through the 2014-15 campaign.

So you think he's just a goon ? He's put up some good points too (26 goals this season doesn't suck). I'd say give him some ice time in the AHL and see what he can do.

I'm trying to be an optimist here ! He was a second-round pick (46th overall). So yeah... probably a long shot. But we'll see if and how he develops.

Data says he should have been a 4th round pick. His OHL production does not indicate he will ever play very long in the NHL.

Great. Just what we need. More players with character who are good in the dressing room.
